As the most popular single-engine aircraft ever built, the Cessna 172 Skyhawk continues to boast flight characteristics that make it ideal for a variety of missions. Having evolved to a new level with its Garmin G1000 avionics, including Safe Taxi, Flight Charts, Traffic, Synthetic Vision and more, the Cessna Skyhawk mixes sophisticated intelligence with a classic and resilient airframe design.
The Pre-Owned Cessna 172 Market
We typically see a moderate selloff of inventory in the fourth quarter each year, and 2016 was no different for the Cessna 172 pre-owned market. In fact, the selloff for Cessna 172s continued through Q1 of 2017. Overall inventory levels took a 38% drop from Q3 to Q1 of 2017. We have seen some recovery in inventory levels for 172R, 172S ’97-’04, and 172S ’08-Newer models, starting in Q2 of 2017.
Although inventory levels have fluctuated up and down, the overall number of 172s on the market is lower than it was at this same time last year.
Average ask prices have increased slightly for the 172S ’05-07′ models this year as inventory has declined. Ask prices have fallen some for all other late-model 172 categories as inventory levels have recovered in the last two quarters of 2017.
