new construction

New Facility Construction Progress

Construction work on our new facility has picked up its pace recently, as weather has allowed for more work to be done. The exterior of the building is currently coming together, with major cement work to be completed shortly.

The new facility will be the home of our rapidly-expanding flight training center/pilot training academy, as well as continued aircraft sales business. With roughly 6,000 square feet of office space and a large aircraft hangar, the new facility will be a perfect space for customers to participate in flight training, ground instruction, simulator training, check rides, exams, and more.

Construction of the new facility is being overseen by Constructive Enterprises and is currently scheduled for completion during the summer.

Welcome Ryan Lutzkanin to CFI Team

We’re pleased to announce the addition of another CFI, Ryan Lutzkanin, to our team.

Ryan grew up in a military family and moved around every few years. He’s lived in most parts of the United States and spent six years in a small town in Germany. His family settled down in Kansas City, where he attended The University of Kansas and studied philosophy and economics.

While at KU, he obtained his private pilot license at Amelia Earhart Airport near KC. He fell in love with aviation and decided he had to make it his career and share it with anyone willing to get into a plane with him. The remainder of his certificates (MEI, CFI, and CFII) were finished in Denver.

He’s excited to help his students realize their aviation goals!

What satisfied customers are saying...

  • I did not expect that the sale would go quickly, in fact, I anticipated that I would have a couple of extra months to fly the plane as we waited for a purchaser to come along. The marketing that was done on my behalf created an immediate interest in the plane. This transaction was easy on me, as the Performance team produced amazing results in record time with very little input on my part. In my opinion, there is no better team to represent you when you buy or sell an aircraft.
    – Thomas M. Belford, Nebraska
  • My first sale with Performance Aircraft was inked in four business days, for more than the listing price! The second, a Beechcraft King Air 300LW, was an impossible task—after five brokerage firms unsuccessfully tried, Performance Aircraft delivered! They understand the market, the people involved, and have so much integrity with both sides of the transaction. Theirs is a world wide reach, with an unbelievable staff.
    – Tony Spears, Texas
  • I trusted the team at Performance Aircraft to help me identify an airplane that fit my mission, budget, and goals.  I'm happy to say that they exceeded all my expectations by keeping me informed throughout every step of the process.  You can trust that this team is not out to sell you an airplane but to be a lifelong aviation partner.  I would definitely use them again for selling or buying an aircraft.  Thank you!
    – Eric Leatherman, Nebraska
  • As a first time buyer, I was nervous about the entire process–plane selection, negotiations, paperwork, and closing. After my first contact with Stacey at Performance Aircraft, I knew they were the right fit to help me. She quickly made me feel at ease with everything. Their website is positively the best and most comprehensive in its class.  The process was smooth and the plane was exactly as it was represented. I couldn't be happier!
    – Dennis Cooley, Florida
  • Your team did exactly what you said you would do, which is a very rare trait in today's business world. I would recommend you guys highly...you have integrity.
    – Tony Wagner, Florida
  • I purchased an airplane from Performance Aircraft a few years ago and have also utilized some of their Flight Training Services since that time. I have developed a respect for their professional expertise in both their Training and Sales side of their business.
    – Mike Kelly, Nebraska
  • Because of your professional team and alliances with other top companies, you will be my first call when looking to purchase another airplane. Thank you again.
    – Tom Saxon, Florida
  • I would tell my friends they can trust Performance Aircraft to provide honest, ethical, and enthusiastic service. Bill found an aircraft that best suits our needs while staying well within our budget. The whole process was practically stress-free. And, the post-purchase training and follow-ups have been phenomenal.
    – Matt Young, Wyoming
  • Your communication here is very good and I really appreciated your honesty. Your follow up is awesome. Bill knew the value of airplanes as well as anyone I have met in the industry and I have been flying for over 30 years. You guys did a great job communicating with me throughout the process and kept the plane moving to closing. I was very pleased with everything.
    – Randy Christo, Nebraska
  • Their knowledge of the market allowed us to feel confident that they understood aircraft values. Additionally, the personality of the marketing team made this an easy decision that we would be treated well and communicated with frequently on their progress.

Continued Growth and Expansion

Welcoming four new team members

Availability for flight lessons continues to increase higher than ever before as our team sees more growth. We’re happy to highlight four new flight-training-focused employees: three flight instructors and one support staff member.

Trent Matthes (far right) grew up on an acreage south of Lincoln near Panama. Trent was previously a Performance Aircraft student and received his private pilot certificate from Performance in 2016. He continued training at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he started an aviation degree and received his instrument, commercial, and CFI ratings. In May, he’ll be graduating with a degree in aviation and a concentration in professional flight. To round out his experience, he’s also flown over 300 hours for a few aerial photography operations.

Originally from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Matthew Gabel (far left) moved to Lincoln and joined the Performance Aircraft team in December. He has always had a passion for aviation from a very young age, since before he can remember. Matt now holds his commercial pilot single-engine and multi-engine certificates with an instrument rating, as well as an MEI and CFI rating with a CFII rating to come in the near future. He is quite excited to light the same fire he has for flying in others.

Tom Arington (right center) joined our team in September as the assistant chief flight instructor. Tom began working on his private license in high school. He completed his certificate just prior to enrolling in the professional flight program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He earned his flight instructor certificate in the fall of 2015 and went on to give over 900 hours of flight instruction over the course of the next two years. He graduated from UNO’s program, and in early 2018 he left flight instructing and worked as the FBO manager at SkyWerx Aviation. Driven by his passion for teaching, Tom is happy to return to flight instruction.

Our new flight training support assistant, Kyle Soto (left center), joined us in the fall. He simply loves the feeling of being in the air and will soon start training for this private pilot’s license with Performance Aircraft. Kyle is working hard toward his life-long dream of becoming an airline pilot, even as a sophomore in high school. He plans to pursue a college degree in aeronautical engineering or aerospace engineering and eventually pilot long-haul, international flights on the Boeing 777.

Continued construction progress for our new facility

With the steady addition of employees, we’re looking forward to having expanded office space upon the completion of our new building in the next few months. Construction is moving ahead during the winter months, and the metal frame is now partially in place. Progress can be seen week by week. We’re excited to have a fresh new home for all of our new instructors and aircraft fleet, as well as improved study and testing space for our customers.

Introducing our newest team members: Keaton, Sarah, Alix, Zach, Matt, and Steve

new team membersWe announced this spring that we would be introducing a couple of new full-time Certified Flight Instructors. We now have three new CFIs as well as three additional new team members for you to meet!

Keaton Stengel joined our team in early July as a certified flight instructor. Originally from a small town in Texas, Keaton moved to Nebraska in 2014 and attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in aviation with a concentration in professional flight. Keaton’s prior experience at Jet Linx Aviation as a client services representative, as well as his excitement for teaching and serving others, made him a perfect fit for the team.

Our new sales & marketing assistantSarah Learned, also joined our team in early July, bringing with her several years of experience in client relations, project management, and marketing. She grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with a father who works as an avionics engineer, but was brought into the aviation world at full speed when she married her husband, John, in 2016. She graduated from the University of Nebraska—Lincoln with degrees in both psychology and advertising & public relations. Before her career at Performance, she worked as an account manager at a marketing and communications agency for four years, which taught her how to foster meaningful relationships and manage the ins and outs of sales and marketing projects. She loves supporting a team and finding ways to make processes as smooth and efficient as possible.

Alix Christensen, our new administrative assistant joined the team in May, and in a few short weeks has gotten to know most of our active flight training customers. She has a bachelor’s degree in education and human sciences from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Her education and previous experience at a busy medical office gives her an excellent background for working with our customers and instructors to manage schedules and other details. She is excited to be a part of the Performance Aircraft team and learn all about aviation!

Since joining the team as aircraft sales assistant in April, Zach Friesen has been actively involved in our aircraft showcase listing creation and aircraft advertising processes. With a family background in the Air Force, his genuine passion for aviation developed at a young age when he took his first step onto an airplane. The feeling of flight was an experience that he’d never forget. Zach is currently completing a bachelor’s degree in business administration at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. His education has provided him with valuable business and design skills, which he is excited to utilize within the aviation industry. He can’t wait to help inspire and enable aviation dreams while at the same time, accomplishing his own.

Matt McKenna joined our team at the end of May as an experienced certified flight instructor with a demonstrated history of helping others succeed in learning to fly. Matt has a bachelors degree in aviation with a concentration in professional flight from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Prior to embarking on his aviation career, he owned and managed a successful construction business, concentrating on commercial and residential projects. Although he enjoyed the construction business, Matt had always dreamed of flying and made a decision in 2015 to go back to school and begin a career as a pilot.

Steven Dethlefs joined Performance in early June as a certified flight instructor, bringing with him more than a year of experience teaching students to fly. Steve has always been interested in flying since he was a young boy. He went to air shows with his family, watched his dad fly for the Air Force for many years, and has been involved with aviation most of his life. Steve began working toward his flying career in 2013 by attending the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he obtained his bachelor’s of science in aviation with a concentration in professional flight. Prior to Steve’s flying career, he enlisted in the Nebraska Air National Guard back in 2011 as an Aerospace Ground Equipment mechanic working on ground equipment that support the KC-135.  He loves working with his hands and finding new projects to accomplish.

We wish them the best of luck and look forward to our future working with them!

Welcome Flight Training Director Donn Stoner

Donn StonerPerformance Aircraft is excited to announce the addition of Donn Stoner to our team as Flight Training Director.

Donn’s love for aviation started at age 9 when he enjoyed his first flight with a local aircraft owner. Since that day, the desire to be involved in aviation has never left him. Spending 4 years in the Navy as an Air Traffic Controller fueled his adventures in aviation while serving stateside, as well as abroad with aircraft carrier operations at sea. After the Navy came a career with the FAA as a Controller in Waterloo Iowa, Lincoln Nebraska, and Chicago O’Hare airport. Working with all kinds of aircraft from military, commercial airliners, to general aviation aircraft has caused great appreciation for the industry with it’s many different facets.

A dream was realized at age 50 when Donn obtained a private pilot certificate as well as an instrument rating through Performance Aircraft. In 2018, Donn joined Performance Aircraft as Director of Flight Training with a passion to impact the aviation industry by leading alongside a team dedicated to make a difference in the lives of people. Increasing the pilot ranks to address the growing deficit of pilots in the US and Internationally seems a worthy pursuit in the years to come. Serving to impact the people on our team, the communities where we live, the industry we are in, and the world we are a part of, gives a framework for living with purpose.

Prior to joining the Performance team, Donn was People Resource Director for an Auto Group that spanned 3 markets. Responsibilities included creating a people development culture with clear mission and cultural values. This occurred through leadership development of managers, and identification and development of emerging leaders. In short, working in a team based environment while encouraging and developing people to their full potential is a life motive for Donn.

Favorites include: spending time with his wife Mary and their family including 6 grand-kids, archery hunting, woodworking, outdoor activities, driving anything John Deere, and of course flying as often as possible.
